Welcome to the 2011-2012 academic year! As my spouse and I are both CHS alumni, we now consider it a true privilege to have the opportunity to give back to Canyon a little of what has been given to us. We are excited to see what this year has in store for us with two Comanche sons! The CHS PTSA is also looking forward to an eventful stash of activities geared towards student leadership, teacher involvement, life enrichment, and parent education workshops. By supplementing the educational learning, we will focus on specific programs and will work with various community organizations. I encourage all parents to remain involved by meeting your students’ teachers and administrators, volunteering time, and supporting your students’ learning and
activities as they prepare for the future. With such drastic cuts from the school district this year, we need your support to keep Canyon the competitive, thriving school it should be!
HOW DO YOU BECOME OR REMAIN INVOLVED?
Join the Canyon High PTSA! Your PTSA membership supports many programs and activities at Canyon including Student Scholarships, Student Awards, Student Drug and Alcohol Awareness, After School Tutoring, Canyon Pride Day, Reflections, Parent Education and Curriculum Grants, to name just a few. We need each and every one of you to join, so that we can continue to support the Canyon family. Your membership connects you to the largest organization in the world that works solely for the benefit of our young people, and you are participating in shaping our future leaders of tomorrow.
Volunteer! Throughout the school year there are many opportunities for you to contribute your talents. PTSA welcomes you any time that you are able to volunteer... Sign up online or contact Kathleen Niakan, our Volunteer Coordinator at kaniakan@afepower.com. We’ll find a spot just for you so jump right in! Taking Care of Business (Registration) is as follows: August 15th-19th in the Cafeteria, from 8:00 a.m. - noon. We’d love to have your help accepting memberships at the PTSA table and distributing textbooks. The first day of school, August 25th, we also need people to distribute student schedules from 7:00 – 8:30a.m. in front of the Gym. Please email me at the address below if you are able to volunteer for this. PTSA works closely with the CHS principal, Dr. Greg Bowden, and his staff to improve communication via the electronic newsletter, phone updates, and our school website. Our goal is strengthening the collaboration between all of our member groups: our parents, teachers, students, community and business partners. Hearing your ideas, concerns and suggestions are important to me as we try to make Canyon High School the very best it can be.
I look forward to seeing your smiling faces at our PTSA meetings which will be held in the back “lounge” area of the cafeteria on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9:00 a.m. Our first meeting will be Sept. 21. Please join us, Comanches!
Warmest Regards,
Ami Kreutziger
