addition, Canyon High School has a class-specific list serv
system associated with the counselor and the graduating
class to which your student belongs. To sign up to
receive important messages from the counseling office about
your student's grade level and college-related issues (e.g., prep

SAT
and ACT TESTS
What is the difference between the SAT and ACT? They’re both
standardized tests and they both factor into the college
admissions process. Click on the following links to learn
more about them.

What is the ACT testing schedule?
Why take the SAT
and ACT Tests?
Most
colleges and universities generally require one of two
college entrance exams. These two are the SAT and the
ACT. The
SAT I measures critical thinking and reasoning in
vocabulary, written expression and mathematics. The ACT
measures academic achievement in, reading and social
science. Students are encouraged to take both exams, as most
colleges and universities will accept the higher scores of
either. Consult with colleges or universities, which you are
considering to verify if there is a preference for one. The
University of California and approximately 150 other
selective colleges and universities require an additional
two SAT II exams in different subject areas.
Colleges and universities use exam scores to assist in
admission decisions, along with the transcript of courses
and grades earned extra curricular activities,
recommendations and essays.
Community colleges do not require the SAT, ACT, or SAT II
entrance exams. However, they do require a Math and English
writing test for the purpose of placement in appropriate
course levels.
