Cooper's Hawks were Banded:
July 10, 2010 - This summer three baby Cooper's Hawks were banded. Experts were called in to perform the duties. The hawk's nest is above the man's head in the tree where the branches form a bowl. The nest has been there many years but was not used the past few years. This year an immature female produced three healthy babies which are about three weeks old in the pictures. The banding will allow the experts to follow them.

Seniors Win Spirit Week:
Mar. 5, 2010 - El Modena is a very spirited place, and that is never better illustrated than during Spirit Week, a tradition started in the mid 1960’s by El Modena’s first student council.

Over a five-day period (Mar. 1-5) the grades competed for the title of “most spirited.” This year the class themes included “Epic Freshman,” “X,” “Juniors and the Chocolate Factory,” and “Seniors at Sea”. The week-long celebration included the wearing of class t-shirts, games, food, and skits in the Main Quad, as well as campus decorating.

The culminating activity took place on Friday, Mar. 5, when a panel of staff judges determined the winning class. This year’s award of most spirited went to the senior class. Great job, Vanguards!

Snow Day Inner Tubing

Test Scores Earn Snow Day:
Feb. 23, 2010 - El Modena’s recent CELDT scores are in and our students did a phenomenal job!

Compared to last year’s results, nearly 50% more students gained one or more proficiency levels on this year’s exam.

As a reward for their tremendous efforts, 163 students were given the opportunity to go to Big Bear, Calif., and learn first-hand what a “snow day” is all about.

The fieldtrip included a delicious pancake breakfast provided by our own cafeteria staff and a visit to Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, where our Vanguards took part in some intense inner tubing. As the pictures attest, a great time was had by all!.

Ed Royce visits El Mo

Royce Visits El Modena Classes:
On Friday, Nov. 13, Congressman Edward Royce (R-40) visited El Modena’s AP American Government and Politics classes to answer questions on the politics, process, and policy of the United States Congress.

Congressman Royce addressed a range of student questions, gave his thoughts on the government bailouts, discussed the necessity of compromise in America government, and described the change in Congress since the democrats gained control.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to interact and connect with their district representative as it gave them a deeper appreciation for what it takes to do the job. It also brought to life what they had been learning in class, and provided some inspiration to become more involved in the political process.

October 2009 - El Modena celebrated students’ outstanding CST scores with a school-wide carnival. September 2009 - El Mo students raised the school’s API by 27 points, surpassing Villa Park High School! Please check out the official release from the Orange Unified School District in PDF format by clicking here. Students will be rewarded with a carnival next month.
