I am excited to start my third year as your site principal.  I look forward to continuing to work with our students, staff, and community.  Taft teachers and staff are committed to providing each student with the highest level of instruction and involvement possible. 

Taft Elementary School is one of twenty six elementary schools in the Orange Unified School District.  The exceptionally well maintained school was built in 1962 and sits on 16.5 acres of land.  Taft is located on Cambridge between Meats and Taft about ½ mile from The Village of Orange.  Taft is a diverse school with approximately 525 students enrolled in grades PreK-6. In addition to the regular education program, Taft includes two primary Special Day classes, a Preschool Special Day class, and a 5/6 Gifted and Talented program.  Taft Elementary School follows a modified traditional calendar which can be found on the district webpage.

Taft Teachers are dedicated to providing a safe collaborative learning environment by setting high expectations and providing personalized instruction.  Our educators utilize researched based strategies to support our school’s focus of vocabulary development, reading, and writing in all content areas. Students utilize their developing literacy skills to expand their knowledge of science and social studies concepts. Students also have the opportunity to engage in hands-on science activities and to explore computer based learning through our ST Math program.

 We actively focus on areas of academic improvement and celebrate our students’ success.  Our goal is to monitor student progress by using formative assessments to evaluate student achievement and modify instruction in order to meet each student’s needs.  We also carefully teach, model, and support behavioral expectations through our PBIS program. To model “life-long learning” the staff at Taft is constantly seeking opportunities to continue their training and refine their skills. 

Our staff works to build an atmosphere that invites parents and the local community to be a part of the educational process.  Parents are provided multiple opportunities to engage in the education of their children.  Opportunities for parental involvement include volunteering in the office or classroom, attending educational excursions, advisory meetings, family nights, classroom observations, and our quarterly Books and Breakfast.  The community is encouraged to participate in all Taft events.  It is our goal to openly communicate with parents and the community through monthly newsletters, e-mails, notes, phone messages, and the school marquee.
