principal's message

Welcome to Taft Elementary School’s website. I hope you find this site useful and informative. Please use this site to stay connected during the school year.

I am excited to join the Taft Elementary team as the new principal.  I look forward to meeting and working with the students, teachers, and community.  The teachers and staff at Taft are committed to providing each student with the highest level of instruction and involvement possible.

Taft Elementary School is one of 30 elementary schools in the Orange Unified School District. The school was built in 1962, is exceptionally well maintained, and sits on 16.5 acres of land. Taft is located on Cambridge between Meats and Taft about 1/2 mile from The Village of Orange. Taft is a diverse school with approximately 550 students enrolled in grades K-6, including a primary Special Day Class, two Pre-K Special Day Classes, and a 4-6 GATE Magnet program.  Taft Elementary follows a modified traditional calendar.

We actively focus on areas of academic improvement and celebrate our students’ success. Teachers are dedicated to providing a safe collaborative learning environment by setting high expectations and providing personalized instruction.  Our educators utilize research based strategies to support our school’s focus of vocabulary development, reading, and writing. Our goal is to monitor student progress by using formative assessments to evaluate achievement and modify instruction in order to meet student needs.  To model “life-long learning,” the staff at Taft is consistently seeking opportunities to continue their training and refine their skills.

Our staff works to build an atmosphere that invites parents and the local community to be a part of the educational process.  Parents are provided multiple opportunities to engage in the education of their children.  Opportunities for parental involvement include volunteering in the office or classroom, attending educational excursions, advisory meetings, and parent education nights.  The community is encouraged to volunteer and participate in Taft functions and fundraisers.  It is our goal to openly communicate with parents and the community through newsletters, e-mail, notes, phone messages, and the school marquee.

I look forward to an outstanding year and getting to know all of the Taft families.  If you have any questions or would like more information, please call us at (714) 997-6254. Our office hours are 7:30AM-4:00PM.

“Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader!” Go Taft Tigers!
