Welcome to
Parkside! I am delighted to be
writing you as the principal of
our outstanding school.
Parkside opened in 2000, and
shares a campus with Orange
Unified’s Child Development
Center. Parkside's Special
Education programs are
specifically designed to meet
the unique needs of preschool
and kindergarten age children
who have delays in one or more
of the following areas: speech
and/or language, cognitive
development, social and
emotional concerns, pre-academic
skills, fine motor, and gross
motor skills.
Children are
recommended to participate in
the preschool and/or
kindergarten special day classes
after a full psycho-educational
evaluation is performed and the
results suggest that the child's
unique need would best be
achieved by being in a Special
Education classroom. The
preschool/kindergarten
assessment team may include a
School Psychologist, Special
Education Teacher, School Nurse,
Speech and Language Specialist
as well as any other appropriate
personnel.
Classes are
taught by a credentialed Special
Education teacher with the
support of approximately three
instructional assistants per
classroom. Our site also
includes speech and language
specialists, a school
psychologist, an adapted
physical education teacher as
well as itinerate occupational
therapists, physical therapists,
and teachers of Hearing Impaired
and Vision Impaired. Students
at Parkside may receive support
from designated service (DIS)
providers as recommended in
their Individualized Educational
Plan (IEP) in which goals are
developed to meet their
individual needs. The IEPs of
all children are kept
confidential.
