Search Engine/Directory Tips

• Search early in the morning.
• List 2 or 3 keywords instead of just one or you will get an overwhelming number of results. For example: Instead of Special Education, put in something more specific such as Special Education Newsletter or Special Education Organizations.
• Enclose keywords in quotes to find pages containing the exact phrase. For example: "special education games".
• Add an asterisk (*) after a root to find variations of the word. For example: disability* might bring up disabled, and disabilities.
• Capitalize proper names. For example: Orange Unified School District.
• Insert a comma between different names. For example: CAC, OUSD, IDEA.
• AND, or (+) will only list websites that have both keywords or phrases. For example: special education AND support, or special education + support.
• OR- finds websites containing one or the other specified words or phrases. For example: special education dictionary OR special education terms.
• NEAR - finds websites with specified keywords or phrases within 10 words of each other.
• adj. -finds websites with the keywords next to each other. For example: adj. Special Education Dictionary.
• NOT or ( -), used between two keywords, will only list the first keyword. For example: Special Education Tips NOT Special Education Games or Special Education Tips - Special Education Games.
